5 Tips: Evaluating a Roofing Contractor

As a consumer, you have lots of choices available for roofing contractors. Often, we are competing with other roofing companies to earn your business. As a professional roofing contractor, we spend a great deal of our time working with our vendors and suppliers to ensure our clients benefit for the latest technologies. While we get many of our new clients by referrals, some find us by searching on the web. Our new customers will often ask us why they should choose Landmark Roofing & Siding over the other roofing companies. Here are some tips on the questions you need to ask a roofing contractor in your interview.

Five qualities that make a good roofing company

Are Licensed, Bonded, and Insured?

This is the most important thing to consider while hiring roofing company’s services. The reason being, in case there is an accident or injury during roof installation or repair and the company is uninsured then the loss has to be incurred by the homeowner- often too much to handle. Therefore, always look for a company that maintains paperwork showing its insurance policy and is registered to do business in the State of Washington. If they’re unable produce insurance proof and ask you to sign the roofing contract first, just move to another company. Landmark Roofing & Siding is licensed to operate in the State of Washington. Our Contractor ID: LANDMRS880BS

You can lookup any contract by this ID and see if they are registered with the State. It will also provide you with the Bond and Insurance information on the business.

Most roofing contractors will discuss warranties regarding the materials. Most of the roofing materials that are installed on your home will come with a warranty from the manufacturing company for the materials used on your home. Today’s better roofing materials typically carry a generous manufacturer’s warranty. But this warranty is limited to materials only. Landmark Roofing & Siding stands behind our work with a written LIFETIME warranty on installation to make sure your new roof stays worry-free for years to come. Selling your home? No worries. With a quick call your Installation Warranty is completely transferable to the new owners. Between the manufacturer’s warranty and our generous installation warranty, you’re covered. Double the warranties for your peace of mind.

Permanent Business Place & Business History

A permanent business place shows that the roofing company is invested in the community. Generally, roofing contractors come to your home. This helps us get a sense of the project. If you have concerns, always ask to visit their office location. At Landmark Roofing & Siding, we have a showroom for our clients. This allows you to visit and see the materials and meet with our team members.

Most well established roofing contractors are accredited and trained on the latest products in the market. This means we work closely with the material manufacturers to ensure our staff is highly trained in all the latest materials and installation techniques. Ask the company about their accreditation and memberships. Similar to a permanent place of business, the investment in ongoing training demonstrates a commitment to their quality of work.

Ask for references. As an established roofing contractor, the majority of our business if based on referrals. As a new buyer looking to improve your home, trust is an important factor when you are making such a large investment. Make sure you get a list of references from past clients. Also be sure to do some searches on the web for the business name. If there is any negative history, it is likely to show up here.

Hiring a quality contractor requires some due diligence, but is certainly worth the piece of mind.

  1. I think I’ll hire a licensed roofing contractor to repair my roof. Hopefully, the ones I plan to hire have warranties for their work. As you’ve mentioned, they should have a permanent business place as well, so I’ll do my research as soon as possible.

  2. I liked that you said that one reason to hire a roofing contractor is that they have a warranty. I would imagine that you would want a warranty when you are spending a lot of money all at once. I would be sure to hire a professional so that I could get a warranty.

  3. I need to get my roof replaced this summer because it has a few spots that are allowing leaks to come into my home every time it rains. It makes sense that you say to ask potential roofers for references. This way I can call their previous clients and ask about the company’s quality of service before I hire them.

  4. I suppose I should ask a roofing contractor if they have warranties for the work they’ll do for my home. It would be ideal if they’re licensed, bonded, and insured as well. Thanks for adding that I should look into their accreditation so that I’ll know if they’re qualified for the job.

  5. I think I should check if the residential roofing contractor I’ll hire has references before they install the new roof in my home. Thanks for adding that I should look into their business history as well. If they have warranties for the new roof that I’ll get, I’ll ask them about that.

  6. I’m about to hire a roofing company to install a roof on my new home. I think I’ll check if they have a permanent business place. Thanks for mentioning that I should check for references as well so that I can make sure that they’re good at their job.
